Huskies Sweep

Saturday, Feb 6, 2010: Keyano College Huskies women's volleyball defeated the Lakeland College Rustlers in Lloydminster this afternoon three straight 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play. Tena Brass named Huskies MVP. Kelly Blatchford was Rustlers MVP.  Games stats will be published when available. The Huskies record is now three matches won and five lost.

In men's volleyball the Huskies kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3-1 victory 18-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22. Game MVP was Pascal Guenette for the Huskies with 13 kills. Matt Hebert chipped in witrh 11 kills. With three key Huskies players out for the weekend, libero Connor Sauverwald came up big with 12 digs. Brett Dombrova had 13 kills for the Rustlers.In eight matches played the Huskies are now 3 and 5. Huskies wrap-up the regular season Feb 12-13 with a road trip to play the Lethbridge Kodiaks.

Friday, Feb 5, 2010: Keyano College Huskies men's volleyball defeated the Lakeland College Rustlers in Lloydminster tonight with a 15-25, 25-15, 30-28, 25-15 decision in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play. The last time the two teams met Dec 4, 2009 the visiting Rustlers defeated the Huskies 25-20, 27-25, 25-19 at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. Huskies MVP was Matt  Hebert  and Josh Firlotte for the Rustlers. Hebert had 13 kills. Rustlers 4th year player Brett Dembrova had 11 kills. The Huskies women’s team lost to the Rustlers 23-25, 21-25, 25-14, 17-25.  Melissa Dimond was selected the Huskies MVP leading the way with 11 kills. Peggy Sommerfeld earned MVP status for the Rustlers recording 12 kills and two service aces. Teammate Erin Keyzer had 13 kills. The teams return to the court Saturday Feb 6, 2010 at 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men. The game will be broadcast live on gohuskies.ca and sportscanada.tv. Play-by-Play provided by Huskies sports information officer Curtis J. Phillips and expert colour commentary by Rustlers' Athletic Supervisor Aaron Rawlake.

cjWednesday Feb 3, 2010: Keyano Huskies men's and women's volleyball teams return to the road to play the Lakeland College Rustlers in Lloydminster on Feb 5-6, 2010 in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play. Women's games start at 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. Men start at 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. The game will be brought to you live on sportscanada.tv and gohuskies.ca. Play-by-play will be done by Huskies' sports information officer Curtis J. Phillips.
 
History Repeats Itself

Saturday Jan 30, 2010: History continues to repeat itself as the Keyano College Huskies women's volleyball team go the five game distance this time against the visiting Briercrest Clippers losing 25-23, 25-14, 22-25, 20-25, 14-16 in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play at  the Canadian National Resources Ltd. Gymnasium located in the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. MVP for the Huskies was Tena Brass while Ashley Streuber had MVP status for the Clippers, Huskies Stephanie Jackson and Melissa Dimond each recorded 11 kills. Kim Blatchford had 15 digs for the home team. Kayla Bruce led Briercrest with 10 kills and Streuber chipped in nine. Carlee Leclaire and Rebecca Bruce had seven digs and Kayla Bruce and Alexis Loewen each had four blocks. In men's action it was another three game sweep for the visiting Clippers, winning 25-20, 26-24, 25-15. Five year veteran Stacey Elser, playing his last ACAC regular season home game in Huskies' uniform, was named game MVP. Scott Lesher was selected MVP for Briercrest. Elser along with teammate Troy Klassen had five kills. Elser also had three blocks. Lesher was tops for the Clippers with nine kills. Michael Haasdyk recorded three blocks. The Huskies return to the road to play the Lakeland College Rustlers in Vermillion on Feb 5-6, 2010.

Clippers Come Back to Win

Friday Jan 29, 2010: The visiting Briercrest Clippers came back from a 2-1 game deficit Friday evening to defeat the host Keyano College Huskies 21-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-9, 15-7  in women's volleyball at the Canadian National Resources Ltd. Gymnasium located in the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. MVP for the Huskies was No. 11 Melissa Dimond while five year veteran Lindsay Wood had MVP status for the Clippers,

Alannah Stewart led the Huskies attack with nine kills and Dimond had seven. Wood and teammate Kayla Bruce each had seven kills for the visiting team. The Clippers dominated at the net with 13 blocks compared to the Huskies four. Bruce and Alexis Loewen each had six stuffs. Clippers recorded four service aces.

In men's action the Clippers swept the host Huskies 25-18, 25-16, 25-23. Clippers MVP was Joel Dyck. Mitch Schneider was the Huskies MVP. Rory Scott led the Huskies with six kills. Dyck sparked the Clippers attack with seven kills.

Huskies were honoured to have  former national women's coach Dr. Lorne Sawula do colour commentary on the live internet broadcast. The two teams return to the hardwood Saturday Jan 30 at 1 p.m. for women and 3 p.m. for men.
