Mike Connolly – Men’s Basketball Coach

Connolly has recently completed seven seasons leading the University of Lethbridge Pronghorn Men’s Basketball program. No stranger to intercollegiate athletics, Connolly also has nine years of experience as an assistant coach with the University of Toronto and another three years with the University of Victoria.

As an assistant coach Connolly competed in five Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) National Championship tournaments prior to taking his first Head Coaching position with the Medicine Hat Rattlers. With the Rattlers, Connolly won two consecutive ACAC Bronze Medals and was also named the ACAC Coach of the Year in each of his two seasons with Medicine Hat College.

“We welcome Coach Connolly to Fort McMurray as we prepare to compete in the ACAC in September 2010. On our campus Coach Connolly will fulfill our Adult Program Coordinator responsibilities and will continue our commitment to growing the sport and recreation offerings within the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre,” said Wade Kolmel, Huskies Athletic Director at Keyano College.

“Coach Connolly brings a wealth of experience to our basketball program and we feel he will make an immediate impact in our community. Whenever you attract a leader in their chosen field, to a new program such as ours, an Athletic Director cannot help but be excited for the future of their department, not to mention the future of the basketball team,” Kolmel continued.

Other notable accomplishments include:
-    529 Post Secondary Games Coached
-    Level 4 Graduate of the National Coaching Institute in Victoria
-    Basketball Alberta Canada Games (2001) Medalist
-    Basketball Canada Development Team Assistant Coach (1997) who competed in the Jones Cup in Taiwan
