Konrad Plante – Huskies Men’s Volleyball Head Coach
Plante will become the eighth Huskies Men’s Volleyball Head Coach as we enter our 19th season of competition in the ACAC. He brings a wealth of experience as a physical education professional who has coached volleyball within the Team Manitoba and Brandon University programs. Plante joins the Huskies after completing eight years of teaching with Crocus Plains High School in Brandon, Manitoba.
As a high school, club, and provincial team coach, Plante has been part of teams, which have been provincial finalists as well as gold and bronze medalists at the provincial and national level. In 2007 Plante was named the MHSAA (Manitoba High School Athletics Association) and the MVA (Manitoba Volleyball Association) coach of the year, and was recognized as having one of Manitoba's most consistent top five teams at both the high school and club level.
Most recently, Coach Plante was part of the Brandon University Bobcats Men's Volleyball coaching staff at the 2009 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Men's National Championship. The Bobcats finished the championships with a Bronze medal in only their fourth season of play at the university level.
“With the Huskies re-tooling after our fifth place finish at the Coldwell Banker Fort McMurray 2009 CCAA Volleyball Championships I feel Keyano will continue to grow and build as a program,” explains Wade Kolmel, Huskies Athletic Director at Keyano College.
“Having finished the 2009 season ranked first in the ACAC we had no choice but to put an enormous amount of effort promoting the vacant position at Keyano. Konrad and the Huskies will definitely fit well together; we wanted a rural coach, an ex-teacher, and a sport development professional, and his rapport with volleyball coaches throughout Western Canada is a bonus,” continued Kolmel.
In addition to volleyball, Plante will fulfill Huskies’ Youth Program Coordinator responsibilities and will continue the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre’s commitment to growing the sport offerings.
“Konrad will obviously play a big role in the development of volleyball in Fort McMurray, what will also be noticed though, is how he will enhance the other sport skills we highlight here at Keyano,” added Kolmel.
