They should rename this year - The Year of the Keyano Huskies! The Huskies women's and men's basketball teams have come home with gold, winning the ACAL Basketball Championship in Calgary on April 4.

The ACAL (Alberta Colleges Athletic League) Championship was held at Rocky Mountain College on April 3 and 4. The Huskies women's team defeated the Olds Broncos with a final score of 53 to 48, while the men's team beat St. Mary's 87 to 79.

All-Conference players from the women's team include Angela Cull, who made first team, and Jenna Holt as well as Christie King, who made second team. Kaleem Farhat and Mo Hamid made first team from the men's team.

"This was a total team effort," says Compton Vigilance, Women's Basketball Coach at Keyano College. "This is a great group of ladies. I want to congratulate them for a well-played season, and thanks go out to my assistant coaches, especially Shelley Youens. It was a great year for Keyano Huskies Athletics," said Vigilance.

Moe Farhat, Men's Basketball Coach at Keyano says the team played their best two games of the year. "We had injured players in the past, but with a full roster of healthy players, we were great," he said.

Huskies Athletics has now secured an unprecedented four ACAL championships - two for Futsal last March, when the women's and men's teams secured gold and now for basketball.
