09/25/2011 - Keyano College Huskies men’s volleyball came away with one match victory out of four playing inThe King's University College/Grant McEwan University Men's Volleyball Tournament this past weekend in Edmonton. The Huskies defeated the NAIT Ooks three games to two by scores of 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, 17-25 and 15-12. In their other series, they fell to the Medicine Hat College Rattlers 25-18, 25-19 and 33-31; Briercrest Clippers 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 and SAT Trojans 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-18. On the women’s side the Huskies played in the Concordia Invitational lost to the Kings Eagles 25-21, 25-23, 25-14, NAIT Ooks 25-12, 25-16, and 25-16 but were able to defeat the Concordia Thunder 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-23. “We did really well considering that we got all of our veterans and rookies in and tried to give everyone balanced playing time,” said Huskies women’s coach Sean Seywright “Overall it was a quite successful learning experience and what we wanted out of the weekend.” Seywright had high praise for veteran setter Tena Brass and left side Sara Bizovie. The weekend also marked the return of Kathleen Sharun who sat out last year with an ACL injury. “She (Sharun) played with confidence and showed no limitations,” said Seywright. “By sitting on the bench last year she got to see everything from the inside out and now she brings us great leadership.” The women’s team hosts the inaugural; Meritt Hotel Invitational Volleyball Tournament Oct. 7-8 at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. |
