The women’s basketball team is taking a season off from league competition, but will start in ACAC for the 2010-11 season. New coach Clayton Nielson said the good thing about basketball is that it doesn’t get going until December.
“It gives me a chance to find some contacts for high school coaches in town, which has been done and has been great,” Nielson said.
“Everything’s keen to get going and get a relationship built, which is awesome.”
The Huskies basketball season will feature exhibition and tournament games aplenty, as the team works towards hitting the ground running in a tough ACAC North division.
Huskies Athletics is pleased to welcome Coach Clayton Nielsen to our Keyano College team.
Nielsen has recently completed two seasons as the Assistant Coach with Red Deer College Women's Basketball program, and two seasons as Head coach at HJ Cody high school in Sylvan Lake. Additionally, he has experience as an assistant coach at the provincial level, with U15 girls, who placed second at the nationals.
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference will have a slightly new look in the 2010-11 season. Keyano College has been accepted into the basketball league while the Augustana Faculty, University of Alberta in Camrose will compete in the volleyball league and Lakeland College will compete in soccer.
The ACAC is the governing body for intercollegiate athletics in Alberta. Its mission is to foster the development of the student athlete through the administration and promotion of intercollegiate athletics as part of the educational experience and provide a leadership role in the development of sport in Alberta.
