09/15/2011 - NAIT Ooks women’s soccer head coach Sergio Texiera has a buzzing in his ear.

No need to see a doctor about possible Tinnitus though as the sounds are that of success with the recent ranking for the Edmonton based post-secondary school of No. 1 in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association from coast-to-coast-to-coast.

Meanwhile Keyano College Huskies women’s soccer head coach Ian Diaz is hoping that his team will not be stung as they are the underdog heading into their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference 2011 regular season opener against the Ooks this Saturday in the capital city.

“It is going to be a very good test for the girls,” said Diaz. “We have a good idea to what their players are inside and out and we will have to work together.

“Obviously we are going to have to defend and deny them the shots at the top of the 18 as they are deadly from there. We have to shut down that space and force them outside.”

The Huskies will no doubt have to keep an eye on scorer Leanne Kadatz who already has three goals in the early season.

Last time Kadatz played against the Huskies she tied an ACAC record scoring seven goals to lead her team to a 13-0 victory over the host Huskies at Corless Field. The previous day she had recorded four goals in a 9-0 decision.

The Ooks are currently undefeated in early season play with a 6-3 win over the Thunder and a 4-1 decision versus the Grant MacEwan University Griffins.

The Huskies, who are in the six-team North Division - have played two exhibition games to date losing to the host Medicine Hat Rattlers 4-2 and 5-0.

Sunday the Huskies play the Griffins (1-1, four goals for and four goals against) of whom Texiera predicted would be in the CCAA rankings soon.

“I have watched them play and they are a little bit slower,” said Diaz. “We may have the upper hand in athleticism.”
