Huskies women’s volleyball will look to improve on their 1-19 record from last season. They’re motivated and, according to head coach Melissa Laluk, have been working together in the off-season.

“Over the summer, there were a lot of girls still in town,” Laluk said. “They had motivation to train with each other and stuff, so they were keeping up their fitness and preparing for this year. I think a lot of the returning group have come in with a positive, unified outlook. The girls that had that (playoff) qualifying match against SAIT last year still feel that loss, and how close they were.”

The nutrition, training and academics are being taken very seriously this year, Laluk said. The new recruits have been added to the team, and the Huskies now number 13. That will also include redshirt Catherine Joyce.

“It’s a solid group of girls that have a lot of skills to play… I’m feeling confident about that,” Laluk said.

Their pre-season starts with a tournament at Lakeland College next weekend.

“Either way, no matter how it goes, if it’s a good weekend or a bad weekend, they need to get it done right away so they can find their problems, fix their problems and move ahead so that we’re ready to go,” Laluk said.

Their regular season, along with the men’s regular season, will begin Oct 23-24 at home against Grant MacEwan College.
