Clayton Nielsen – Women’s Basketball Coach
Nielsen has recently completed two seasons as the Assistant Coach with Red Deer College Women’s Basketball program, and two seasons as Head coach at HJ Cody high school in Sylvan Lake. Additionally, he has experience as an assistant coach at the provincial level, with U15 girls, who placed second at the nationals. Coach Nielsen was also a coach at the Centre of Performance in Calgary. This is an elite program for athletes ages 13 to 17, which runs in conjunction with Basketball Alberta, and Canada Basketball. He was also the head coach at the Regional Training Centre for Basketball Alberta. “Huskies Athletics welcomes Coach Nielsen to Fort McMurray as our Women’s basketball program prepares to compete in the ACAC in September 2010,” said Mark Oxer, Huskies Athletic Coordinator at Keyano College. Coach Nielsen will also be Keyano’s new Kinesiology Instructor, solidifying the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre’s commitment to grow the sport department. “Coach Nielsen brings a wealth of knowledge to our basketball program and we feel he will make an immediate impact in drawing student athletes to the College, through our new fitness leadership program. He is a leader in the field, and our new program will benefit from his expertise,” Oxer continued.

NCCP Level 3 Certified Master of Applied Science- Sport Coaching through the University of Queensland Seven years at the college level as an Assistant Coach Midget Girl’s Head Coach, Alberta Summer Games 2008 Girl’s Head Coach, Regional Training Centre through Basketball Alberta Coach Girl’s Program, Centre of Performance, Alberta through Canada Basketball Assistant Coach, Midget Girls- Team Alberta (silver medal, Nationals 2006, Sherbrook, Quebec) Nine years of Head Coaching at the club and high school level
