Griffiths, Bartha named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week

Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Soccer student athlete Sophie Griffiths (Liverpool, United Kingdom) and Men's Soccer student athlete James Bartha (Chilliwack, B.C.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 11, 2022. 

Griffiths and Bartha each played key roles in their team's victories over the weekend.  
 
The Women's Soccer Huskies opened their weekend with a 4-0 win over The King's University Eagles while the Men's Soccer Huskies shutout the Eagles 4-0 and topped the Concordia Thunder 2-0.  
 
Griffiths scored the Huskies' third goal of the game Saturday against the Eagles, her first of the season and the fourth of her ACAC career.  

"She's adjusting to a different position and a little bit of a different responsibility within the team," Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. "With that switching in a couple different positions as well throughout the weekend, but overall played really well.  
 
"[She] worked hard, tried to do the things that we ask of her in those different positions and executed to the best of her ability and found a lot of success." 
 
First year winger/striker James Bartha had an ACAC debut to remember, scoring a hat trick in Saturday's 4-0 contest before helping his club with a single shot in their 2-0-win Sunday. 
 
"James has done well," Slotboom said. "[There's] still lots of things we're working on with him to add different layers to his game, but you can't argue a hat trick in your first game in the league. He's done really well.  
 
"He's trying to apply what we ask of him and that's in the end all you can ask for as a coaching staff." 

Bartha is now one of five players tied for the ACAC lead in goals with three. As part of the opening weekend for the Men's Soccer Huskies, Bartha was one of four Huskies to score the first goal of their ACAC career during their games. 

Griffiths is in her second year of eligibility studying Early Child Care. Bartha is in his first year of eligibility and is studying Business Management.
