Tucker, Silva named All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Basketball student-athlete Kaylynn Tucker (Omaha, Nebraska, USA) and Men's Volleyball student-athlete Athus Silva (Campinas, Brazil) have been recognized as the All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Both Tucker and Silva played key roles in weekend sweeps for their respective sides against the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings. The Men’s Volleyball Huskies dominated at home to extend their winning streak to 13 games while the Women’s Basketball Huskies surged on the road to make their winning streak reach nine games.
Across the two wins, Tucker scored 48 points, adding 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Friday, the Huskies claimed a 63-56 win on the strength of 33 points, four rebounds, and four assists from Tucker. The Omaha, Neb. product had the biggest impact in the second quarter, scoring 14 points, shooting 12-for-20 from the field in the game and going a perfect eight-for-eight on free throws.
Saturday, she added 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in a 56-50 win. In a pivotal fourth quarter, Tucker went three-for-four from the field to score seven of her team’s final 13 points to claim the victory.
The Esports Management student-athlete in her fifth year of eligibility is averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game, ranking fifth in the entire conference. She’s also averaging 5.7 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.3 steals on a per game basis. A member of the 2023-24 ACAC All-Conference First Team, Tucker has averaged 15.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.7 steals per game throughout her three seasons in the ACAC.
In the final home games of his Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) career, Athus Silva was a defensive force for the Keyano Huskies Men’s Volleyball team in two straight-sets victories.
Friday, Silva collected seven blocks and added four kills to his stat line in a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-18, 25-21) against the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings. Saturday, Silva collected seven more blocks while also adding eight kills and a dig in another 3-0 win (25-21, 25-14, 25-16) against the Vikings.
In his fifth year of eligibility and studying Social Work, Silva has been on a torrid pace this season with 109 kills and 65 blocks. He currently leads the entire conference in total blocks and blocks per set (1.23).
The appearances also marked the final home games of Silva’s ACAC career, which began in the 2019-20 season. Since then, the Campinas, Brazil product has recorded 598 kills, 315 blocks, 132 digs, and 69 service aces. In the 2023-24 academic year, Silva was recognized as an All-Canadian by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). He’s also earned three consecutive nominations to the ACAC’s All-Conference Team starting in the 2021-22 season.
The Keyano Huskies close out the volleyball and basketball regular seasons with games against The King’s University Eagles. The Volleyball Huskies will travel down to Edmonton to take on the Eagles while the Basketball Huskies host the final home games of the year at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre.
