Verdin, Kudrin, and King named All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women’s Futsal student-athlete Gaelyn Verdin (Edmonton, Alta.) as well as Men's Futsal student-athlete Mykyta Kudrin (Avdeevka, Donetsk, Ukraine) and Men’s Volleyball student-athlete Anderson King (Edson, Alta.) have been recognized as the All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 23, 2025.
Verdin tended the goal for the Women’s Futsal Huskies through a 2-1-2 record in the second North Regional Tournament, allowing six goals across five games. Verdin started and ended her weekend with shutouts, blanking the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves 3-0 and Portage College Voyageurs 9-0.
“Gaelyn really stood out this weekend,” Head Coach Head Coach Luiz Pedro Guimaraes said. ”She played with confidence and made some crucial saves that kept us in games. Her composure and shot stopping ability were impressive, and she provided the stability we needed at the back.
“She’s been working hard, and it’s paying off with strong performances.”
The Huskies also had 2-2 draws with the Lakeland Rustlers and The King’s University Eagles. In their lone loss of the weekend, Verdin allowed just a single goal in each half.
Kudrin had a strong weekend for the Men’s Futsal Huskies, scoring four of the team’s 15 goals as they went 3-0-2 to claim second place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s North Division.
“He’s really starting to connect with the guys and you can really see him slowly start to find himself in our team and on the court,” Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. “It’s something we’ve really been building on and something that’s really starting to come out. He’s proven to be one of our top players in futsal.
“It’s great to see how much he’s enjoying it and that’s reflecting in how successful he is as a player as well.”
After being named the Player of the Game Friday in a 3-1 win against the Lakeland Rustlers, Kudrin found the scoresheet twice in the Huskies’ 3-3 draw with the NAIT Ooks. He also scored in the team’s 3-1 win against The King’s University Eagles Saturday to secure their second win of the weekend. In the team’s regular season finale, Kudrin scored the game-winning goal in a 4-3 result over the Portage College Voyageurs that secured second place in the division for the Huskies.
King capped off his ACAC career with a Bronze Medal for the Keyano Huskies Men’s Volleyball team. He also led all student-athletes at the tournament with 33 digs and 2.75 digs per set, earning his first-ever selection to the ACAC Tournament All-Star Team.
“What more can be said about this kid,” Head Coach Keegan Kuhr said. “He came and just worked worked worked. Back-to-back season All-Conference and then for him to get an All-Star during Conference Championships shows his dedication to the sport.
“He’ll be missed, but hopefully one day he’s back helping me on the bench.”
