Kaminski, King named All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Volleyball student-athlete Karlene Kaminski (Regina, Sask.) and Men's Volleyball student-athlete Anderson King (Edson, Alta.) have been recognized as the All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 1, 2024.
Kaminski led her side to a weekend sweep on the home court, compiling 27 kills, 25 digs, six aces, two blocks, and one assist.
"She really came into her own this semester," Head Coach Tommy Sloan said. "She's been consistent the whole way through, which is a really nice thing to see from your veteran. She willed us at the end of [Saturday's] game with some serves."
Thursday, the Huskies’ captain recorded 13 kills, 13 digs, two aces, and one block as the Huskies won a four-set battle against the Briercrest College Clippers. Saturday, the Huskies were in tough in their home final, but pulled out a five-set win against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers to close out the first half. Kaminski came to play with 14 kills, 12 digs, four aces, as well as a single block and assist.
With the wins, the Huskies claimed sole possession of second place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s (ACAC) North Division heading into the holiday break. They've also surpassed their 2023-24 season win total in the first half with an 8-1 record.
In her fourth year of eligibility, the outside hitter from Regina, Sask. currently ranks fourth in the ACAC and second in her division in kills (104). She also currently ranks 11th in kills per set among the entire conference.
In addition to the two aforementioned figures, Kaminski has recorded 90 digs, 11 blocks, 11 aces, and 14 assists. She’s on pace to set new career-high totals in kills, digs, blocks, and points based on her per set averages. To date in her ACAC career, Kaminski has recorded 542 kills, 466 digs, 59 aces, 36 blocks, and 35 assists.
King continued his performance as one of the conference’s leading liberos, recording 25 digs across a pair of wins.
“Anderson has been our off-court captain for a couple years now,” Head Coach Keegan Kuhr said. “He’s someone that gets overlooked a lot in everything that he does on and off the court.
“On the court, he’s working so hard to pass the ball for us and dig as many balls as he can. He really takes pride in his game.”
Thursday in a 3-0 victory against the Briercrest College Clippers, King provided a team-leading 16 digs. Saturday against the Medicine Hat Rattlers, King and the Huskies earned another 3-0 victory, with him earning a team-leading nine digs in the process.
A fifth-year Bachelor of Business Administration student-athlete from Edson, Alta., King currently leads the conference in digs (90) and digs per set (2.76). Since entering the ACAC, King has recorded 404 digs in 220 sets across 67 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Regular Season games.
All four Keyano Huskies court sport teams have now ended the first half of their respective seasons. The second semester of action will resume with a set of games against the Concordia Thunder on January 10-11, 2025.
