Kolk, Torchia named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women’s Soccer student-athlete Iris Kolk (Bussum, Noord-Holland, The Netherlands) and Men’s Soccer student-athlete Tano Torchia (Kamloops, B.C.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 5, 2025.
Kolk and Torchia were both key figures in the Keyano Huskies Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams each earning four points at home to aid their respective playoff pushes.
“She’s done really well this weekend,” said Head Coach Niels Slotboom said of his rookie centre-back. “She’s really taken a couple steps forward, starting to understand some of the things we need our centre-backs to do.
“She’s really stepped up, she’s starting to create a spot for herself there that we can rely on and play from. She’s been great so far.”
As part of the Huskies defence, Kolk played a part in limiting the offence of The King’s University Eagles to eight shots through two games.
On the Men’s side of the competition, Torchia scored twice on the weekend. He had the Huskies’ lone goal in Friday’s 1-1 draw and then closed out the scoring in a 3-1 win Saturday.
“Tano is back now,” said Slotboom. “From the last few games you can really tell he’s back at full confidence, finding the right areas of the field and getting his touch on the ball. An amazing goal today so Tano is back.”
The goals gave Torchia three on the season, surpassing his previous best of two from his rookie season.
The Huskies are on the road to Grande Prairie this coming weekend, challenging the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm followed by a 12:00pm kick-off Sunday.
