Fraess, Meyer named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women’s Basketball student-athlete Sydney Fraess (Chilliwack, B.C.) and Men’s Basketball student-athlete Evan Meyer (Oshawa, Ont.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 1, 2026.
Fraess shot 50% (7for-14) from the field across the weekend split, scoring 17 total points and adding six rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
“Sydney brings an incredible level of positivity to our team,” said Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance. “She’s one of those quiet, unsung heroes whose leadership often happens behind the scenes.
“Her steady encouragement, consistent effort, and team‑first attitude played a huge role in our win over the CCAA #8‑ranked NAIT Ooks. Her influence may not always show up on the stat sheet, but it shows up in how our team plays, supports each other, and competes each day.”
Fraess reached double-digit points in a game for the third time this season Friday. Her 10-point performance included a pair of three-point makes in addition to five rebounds and two assists as the Huskies earned a 62-53 win. A day later, Fraess netted seven points in addition to three steals and one rebound.
In 16 games with the Huskies, Fraess has started 11 of them, averaging 5.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.
Meyer was a leading force for the Keyano Huskies Men’s Basketball team in a home sweep of the NAIT Ooks at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. Over the two games, Meyer collected 32 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, three assists, and two blocks.
“Evan was incredible for us this weekend,” said Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga. “He did a great job of picking and choosing when to facilitate and when to score. I thought we played through him and he was a force this weekend.
“I thought he did a real good job of adjusting and making the right decisions.”
Friday, Meyer had 12 points on four-of-seven shooting from the field, also going a perfect four-for-four on free throws. He also contributed five rebounds, five steals, two blocks, and one assist in the 74-56 win.
Half of his points came in a critical second quarter, with the Huskies holding onto their lead at the half before extending it in the final two quarters. His performance earned him Player of the Game honours for the Huskies.
Saturday, Meyer showed out again with a season-high 20 points, adding six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Saturday’s 66-53 win also marked his third performance of shooting 80% or better from the field in his time with the Huskies with an 81.8 figure.
Meyer has been a key addition to the Huskies’ lineup in the second half of the season, averaging 13.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.5 steals on a per game basis.
Having already secured a spot in the 2026 ACAC Men’s Basketball Championship, the Huskies have four games left in their regular season. Up next for the team is a trip to Edmonton to take on The King’s University Eagles February 13 and 14.
