McCarthy, Rigney, Meyer named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women’s Volleyball student-athlete Taya McCarthy (Dawson Creek, B.C.) has been named the Keyano Huskies Female Athlete of the Week. Additionally, Men’s Volleyball student-athlete Noah Rigney (Westlock, Alta.) and Men’s Basketball student-athlete Evan Meyer (Oshawa, Ont.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Co-Male Athletes of the Week.
McCarthy collected 27 kills, nine digs, and eight aces in a weekend split with The King’s University Eagles to close out the home side of their 2025-26 schedule.
“She burst out offensively this weekend, especially on that first night,” Head Coach Tommy Sloan said. “She showed us what she’s capable of.”
Friday’s performance saw her reach a single-game season best 15 kills. She was also one off her season best with six aces in the game.
Across a weekend sweep of the Eagles, Noah Rigney accrued 19 kills, seven blocks, three digs, and one ace.
“His numbers were great this weekend. [He] served really well, blocked really well, just really happy with his performance. Big Rig as we call him, always a team-first guy. It was nice to see him have a pretty big weekend for us.”
Evan Meyer continued to power the Keyano Huskies into the win column, leading the team in a weekend sweep of The King’s University Eagles this past weekend.
“Evan was a force for us on the inside,” noted Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga. “He did a great job of asserting him self offensively, which opened up space for everyone else.”
Friday, Meyer scored 22 points in 23 minutes of action, also adding four rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and a single assist in a 90-75 win for the Huskies. Saturday, Meyer led the Huskies with 27 points in 27 minutes of action in an 84-65 win for the Huskies to complete the road weekend sweep.
Up next for the Huskies is a battle against the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21. Basketball will host their final home games of the season at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. The Volleyball side of competition will take place in Camrose, Alta.
