Mestre, Stewart, Rowe named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women’s Soccer student-athlete Marissa Mestre (Hamilton, Ont.) has been named the Keyano Huskies Women’s Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 19, 2025.
Additionally, Men’s Soccer student-athlete Dylan Stewart (Winnipeg, Man.) and Men’s Basketball student-athlete Deandre Rowe (Ottawa, Ont.) have been named co-Keyano Huskies Male Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 19, 2025.
Mestre, Stewart, and Rowe played key roles in weekend sweeps for their respective sides.
In the final home weekend of her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) career, all played with the Huskies, Mestre notched six goals and one assist to help her side clinch a playoff spot. The goals were the 43rd through 48th of her ACAC career, making her the leading scorer all-time in Keyano Huskies history for either team.
"We signed her initially as a fullback and now she’s one of the best goal-scoring players in the league in general, regardless of position," said Head Coach Niels Slotboom. "She’s massive for us and a lot teams try to game plan against her but she scores in every game. It’s a credit to her for being that consistent."
In both games, Mestre notched hat tricks and ended up with the game-winning goal, giving her nine of the latter in her time with the Huskies.
Also playing his final regular season weekend for the Huskies, the captain Stewart led his side to two more victories to claim the top spot in the ACAC’s North Division. It marked the second time in his three years with the Huskies that they finished in the top spot of the division, accumulating a 27-4-5 record in that span.
"Dylan was great," Slotboom continued. "A graduating player as well, but showing off his leadership - three goals in two games - is massive, especially for someone that’s typically playing in a bit more of a defensive role or a controlling role. He’s really stepped up as a leader.
"He’s leading by example, keeping the guys in check and saying all the right things at the moment."
In 34 games played with the Huskies, Stewart had eight goals and seven assists with a pair of game-winning goals.
On the hard court, Rowe had an exceptional opening weekend for the Men’s Basketball Huskies. In wins against the Medicine Hat Rattlers and Briercrest College Clippers, he averaged 19.5 points, 9.0 assists, and 4.5 steals per game.
“It’s exceptional,” said Head Coach Anthony Skepple. “He had a great game [Friday] and a quiet game today, a quiet 17 points today; anytime you’re setting up your teammates with 18 assists over the weekend.”
The 2023-24 ACAC Rookie of the Year shot 57.7 percent (15-for-26) from the field and was a perfect five-for-five on free throws. He also contributed five defensive rebounds across 53 minutes of action this weekend.
Both Keyano Huskies Soccer teams will compete for a spot on the podium this coming weekend at the 2025 ACAC Soccer Championships, hosted by the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks. The Basketball Huskies are on the home court at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre, hosting the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves.
