Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team to be inducted to Wood Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame
The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Champion Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team have been announced as the third inductee to the 'Class of 2025' for the Wood Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
The 2023-24 season was one to remember for the Huskies, who went from finishing fourth the previous season to earning their first-ever Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Championship in the sport.
Following a 17-3 record, the Huskies clinched the top spot in the ACAC's North Division and with it hosting duties for the 2024 ACAC Men's Basketball Championship. On their home court, they defeated the SAIT Trojans in the semi-finals 93-83 followed by a 94-79 win in the championship final against the St. Mary's University Lightning.
On the national stage at Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B., the Huskies earned an opening-round victory against the Camosun Chargers by a 75-50 score, followed by a 63-56 win against the Humber Hawks in the national semi-final.
With a Huskies versus Huskies matchup in the final, Keyano College came out on top with a 68-55 win against their opponents from George Brown College.
Keenan Miller was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. Evan Meyer was recognized as a member of the All-Tournament Second team.
The 2025 Multi-Sport Awards Dinner will take place Saturday, October 4 at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. Olympic Gold Medallist Beckie Scott will be the guest speaker at the event.
