Men's volleyball Huskies topped in four sets by Eagles
The Keyano Huskies men's volleyball team fell in their season opener to The King's University Eagles Friday at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in a four-set match (27-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17).
With a raucous home crowd, the men's Huskies started strong to open each set, but timely errors cost them points at crucial points in each set.
"When your first contact off pass is what it was, you can't expect too many opportunities," said head coach Keegan Kuhr. "We didn't give ourselves enough opportunities or positive opportunities for us to be successful and that's why we lost."
Trey Weinmeier led the Huskies on the kill front with 20. Radek Brzozowski contributed 12 on his account while Travis Walls added 10 of his own. Setter Chance Wilkins collected 43 assists and six digs as part of a solid performance.
"We fought hard, but it was a tough loss," said Weinmeier. "You learn from those things. They're a good team so hopefully we can come out tomorrow and beat them."
Kuhr added the win boiled down to King's just finding that extra oomph in the key areas of the game.
"I don't question my guys not wanting it more, that'd be incorrect but King's just came out and they wanted it just a little bit more, blocked just a little bit better, served just a little bit better, passed just a little bit better blocked just a little bit better," he said. "We've got to learn from this, hit the reset button and be better tomorrow."
The two teams will meet again Saturday at the SSWC at 1:00 p.m.
