Men's Volleyball Huskies look to second exhibition weekend for continued progress
It was the beginning of a new era for the Keyano Huskies Men’s Volleyball team as they took their first steps into competition for the 2025-26 season with a split of four games against Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) competition.
“The results weren’t what we wanted, but lots of good video to take back and get in the video room and learn from that stuff,” said Head Coach Keegan Kuhr.
Starting their weekend with a five-set win against the Lakeland Rustlers, the Huskies then dropped a four-set game to the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves. Their pair of Saturday games also featured a split with a win against The King’s University Eagles and a loss to the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings.
The Huskies are embracing the youth movement this year, even with some key returners. Within that, Kuhr said he’s trying to find ‘teachable moments” for his young team.
“Every day in practice, every day in video, in game,” he said. “I’m just trying to teach these guys and catch some of them up because we do have a mixture of a small core that’s returning and a bunch of young guys.”
This coming weekend, the Huskies will face a trio of ACAC opponents in Olds College, The King’s University, and Red Deer Polytechnic. They’ll also take on the Providence Pilots from Manitoba.
With the first exhibition weekend out of the way, Kuhr was looking to utilize the second weekend to see the progress made from two weeks of learning as a group.
“We’ve put a lot of systems in place,” Kuhr added. “We talked a lot about how we can be better. I just want to compete. I hope that we can go there and get four wins.
“That’s always obviously the goal, but if we can’t I’m just hoping we can compete. That should hopefully show in our scores.”
