Women's Basketball Huskies defeated twice on the road
The Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team were in action twice over the weekend in southern Alberta.
SAIT Trojans 70 Keyano Huskies 46
The Huskies opened their Friday game against the SAIT Trojans with a strong 14-11 first-quarter lead, but ended up taking the loss.
Danika Cadieux and Ryley Bullock finished with 11 and 10 points respectively. Jaylynn Twin was one off double digits with nine points, adding seven rebounds. Rookie Skylar Lalonde had six points and six rebounds off the bench one ahead of a five-point effort by Sydney Fraess.
Alexis Kemp led the Huskies with eight rebounds, also adding five points in the match.
As a group, the Huskies shot 35.4 percent (17-for-48) from the field, including a trio of three-point shots. The Huskies also won the third quarter by a 12-10 score, but a strong fourth quarter by their hosts sealed the game in SAIT's favour.
Lethbridge Kodiaks 65 Keyano Huskies 59
Led by 17 points from Bullock a trio of Huskies finished in double digits Saturday in Lethbridge, but it wasn't enough to overcome their hosts.
After winning the first and second quarters, the Huskies held a 13-point lead at the half. The Kodiaks came roaring back in the second half though, outscoring the Huskies 40-19 to win by six. Bullock added 10 rebounds for the double-double. Twin and Cadieux rounded out the trio of Huskies in double digits, scoring 14 and 12 respectively.
Fraess led all Huskies off the bench with four points and six rebounds. The Huskies shot 32.8 percent (21-for-64) from the field, making four three-point shots.
Next home games
After a bye week, the Huskies will round out their first half with games against the St. Mary's University Lightning and Ambrose Lions at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre on November 28 and 29. Tip-off is at 6:00pm both nights.
