Women's Futsal Huskies have sights set on reclaiming top spot in ACAC Futsal

The Keyano Huskies Women’s Futsal team has their sights set on returning to the top of the podium in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Futsal action as they face a crossroads of their program.  

With a significant number of student-athletes set to graduate, the core of the program has once more chance to shine together when the season kicks off in Lac La Biche with the first of two ACAC North Regional Tournaments this weekend. 

“It will be a challenge heading into this futsal season,” Fifth-year Harleen Singh said. “I have confidence in the team and the bond we’ve built over all the ups and downs we’ve gone through the past couple of months that we will come out on top this futsal season.”  

The Huskies have spent the past three seasons on the ACAC podium, going from Silver in 2022 to Gold in 2023 followed by a Bronze in 2024. Despite the consistency on the podium, there’s still a bitter taste of last year’s semi-final, a 2-1 loss in overtime, that ended the Huskies’ chance of repeating.  

That was compounded during the outdoor season with another semi-final loss, though the Huskies were able to regroup both times to secure an ACAC medal on both occasions. 

“As a team we all have the same goal so after that loss we all knew what we needed to do as a team and as individuals to get where we wanted to be,” Singh added. “We know we don’t want to experience that same feeling again as a group.” 

The Huskies begin their regular season with a five-game weekend at the ACAC North Regional Tournament in Lac La Biche, hosted by the Portage College Voyageurs this weekend.

The 2025 ACAC Women’s Futsal Championship is scheduled for March 7-9, 2025 at Lakeland College.
