Tyson, Kehler earn Huskies Athlete of the Week honours

Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced Monday that women's soccer student athlete Madison Tyson (Olds, Alta.) and men's soccer student athlete Caleb Kehler (Kemptville, Ont.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 19, 2021. 

Tyson, played a strong role in the Huskies' defensive efforts throughout their opening weekend of play in the 2021 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) for women's soccer. 

She earned Player of the Game honours in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Concordia Thunder, but helped her club bounce back with a 2-0 win Sunday against The King's University Eagles. 

"Madi had two real good performances," said head coach Niels Slotboom. "She obviously got player of the game on Saturday. 

"The second game here on Sunday, she continued to do the exact same thing, dominated in the backline and did everything that we asked of her."

On the men's side, Kehler played a key offensive role for the Huskies. Earning Player of the Game honours Saturday in a 1-0 loss to the Thunder, Kehler drove offensive play up the wing, creating several positive chances for the home side. 

Sunday, Kehler set up the Huskies lone goal of the weekend with a brilliant play to advance the ball down the wing and a perfect ensuing cross inside to Dashawn Kennedy, who completed the scoring play. 

"Caleb was player of the game on Saturday and [had] another strong performance against King's on Sunday," added Slotboom. "Again, just sticking to what we want him to do and executed at a high level and he's consistently dangerous."

The Keyano Huskies women's soccer team currently sits at 1-1-0 in the ACAC standings while the men are 0-1-1 through a pair of games. 

Both sides will travel to Grande Prairie, Alta. for their next games of the ACAC regular season on Sunday, September 26.
