It’s not often that a student-athlete can make a huge impact in just a single season, but that’s exactly what Ringo Dau did with the Men’s Basketball Huskies in the 2021-22 season.
The Minneapolis, Minn. product made Fort McMurray, Alta. his home for a single year, being a part of a historic squad that went 16-0 in the regular season and complete the Huskies’ first perfect season in program history.
During that regular season, Dau averaged 13.1 points per game, totaling 197 points over 15 starts in the 16-game season.
His season started with a big performance as he dropped 23 points in the Huskies season-opening victory against The King’s Eagles. Later that month, Dau equaled that season-high point total with 23 points in the Huskies’ home opener against the NWP Wolves. In those 15 games, he reached double digits 11 times.
He also added 85 rebounds, 38 assists, 22 steals, and 11 blocks, leading the team in blocks and ranking third on the team in the other three ball control statistics.
As the Huskies made their playoff drive, Dau elevated his performance to 19 points per game as the Huskies eventually earned the Silver Medal, with his top performance of the season coming in a 29-point effort during the semi-finals against Red Deer Polytechnic Kings.
During the weekend of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s (ACAC) Men’s Basketball Championships, Dau earned his second Keyano Huskies Athlete of the Week honour for the season.
His efforts also put him on the ACAC’s All-Conference Second team and also earned him honours from the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) as one of three Academic All-Canadians with the Huskies.
Now signed in Ireland with the Dublin Lions, Dau has begun the professional side to his basketball career, recently breaking out for a huge performance with 40 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.
