Andersson, Goldbrunner named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Soccer student athlete Nathalie Andersson (Uppsala, Sweden) and Men's Soccer student athlete Louis Goldbrunner (Attenkirchen, Germany) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Andersson and Goldbrunner each played key offensive roles in weekend home sweeps for the Huskies against the Northwest Polytechnic Wolves.
On the women’s side. Andersson scored the first hat trick of her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) career in a 7-2-win Saturday. With his team down 1-0 Saturday, Goldbrunner scored a key goal to spark his team to a 4-1 win and keeping the men undefeated on the season.
During Saturday’s win, Andersson scored in the 19th, 42nd, and 76th minute, marking the fourth, fifth, and sixth goals of the game for the Huskies. She was named the Player of the Game in Saturday’s match.
“She had a really good futsal season and we’re seeing some of that confidence, some of that success back into this season now,” Women’s Soccer Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. “It was a little bit slow at the beginning, but things are starting to click for her.
“Hard work is never negotiable with her; she’s always there. It’s great to see that it’s paying off in some goals and some assists now as well.”
Adding onto an assist from their season-opening win last weekend, Andersson now has three goals and one assist in four games, ranking her in a tie for seventh in goals among all ACAC Women’s Soccer student athletes.
She’s also appeared in 10 games for her ACAC career, scoring four goals and adding two assists. Andersson is in her second year of eligibility, studying Business Administration.
Goldbrunner led the charge for the Men’s Soccer Huskies, scoring a key goal that helped spark them to the first win in their weekend sweep.
With the home side down 1-0 late in the match, Goldbrunner headed in his second goal of the season in the 77th minute, sparking a 13-minute stretch that featured three other goals for the home side in the 4-1 win.
“I think he’s been the engine for our team, especially down the middle,” Men’s Soccer Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. “He’s done really well, taken really well to some of the changes I’ve asked of him. Overall, he’s a key component and allows our team to be very offensive.
“He’s kind of that piece that holds everything together in the middle.”
Also scoring a goal during the team’s 2-0 win over the Concordia Thunder last weekend, Goldbrunner now has two goals in three career games and is tied for 14th in ACAC scoring, four goals behind teammate James Bartha who has the co-lead at six.
Goldbrunner is in his first year of eligibility with the Huskies and is studying Elementary Education.
The Huskies return to the pitch this coming Saturday, hosting the Portage College Voyageurs for a pair of matches at Shell Place.
The Women’s Soccer game begins at 12:00 p.m. while the Men’s Soccer game is scheduled to kick-off at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free for both games.
