Rodney, Bartha, named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Soccer student athlete Felicia Rodney (Calgary, Alta.) and Men's Soccer student athlete James Bartha (Chilliwack, B.C.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 25, 2022.
Rodney and Bartha each continued their pursuit of team records with their respective programs as the Huskies swept a pair of home games with the Portage College Voyageurs. In the women’s 4-0 win, Rodney struck for a pair of goals while Bartha tallied four goals and a pair of assists in a historic 10-0 win for the men.
Scoring her team’s second and fourth goals of the game in the 40th and 66th minutes, respectively, Rodney moved into a tie for sixth place in the all-time scoring leaderboard in ACAC Women’s Soccer. Her 44 goals, including seven this season with the Huskies, have her four goals behind third place on the all-time list.
“She’s done really well,” Women’s Soccer Head Coach Niels Slotboom said of Rodney’s performance. “Overall, she’s continuing the trend that she’s always had in the ACAC; scoring lots of goals.
“She’s finding her stride still with the new girls. It’s a little bit different than where she came from and so I think there’s just the moving up from here and it’s interesting to see how many she can get by the end of the season.”
Among all student-athletes in ACAC Women’s Soccer, Rodney is tied for fourth in goals with seven and first in assists with five. Her figures make her the leader among all ACAC North Division Women’s Soccer student-athletes.
Rodney was recognized last week by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) as a recipient of the National Scholar Award for the 2021-22 academic year.
There's more history on the horizon for Rodney, who currently sits one goal back of teammate Natalie Orellana and former Huskies student-athlete Amber Deep, who holds a share of the single-season goal record with eight.
In her fourth year of eligibility, Rodney is studying Social Work.
Bartha continued his electric rookie season in the Huskies’ lopsided win Saturday, scoring in the 11th, 48th, 64th and 71st minutes. He also assisted on the team’s opening goal of the game, scored by Aaron Ernst, and Caleb Kehler’s goal in the 57th minute.
“When he’s around the net he’s a threat no matter what and he keeps finding the back of the net, which is what we need,” Men’s Soccer Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. “He’s done great so far.”
Bartha currently leads the ACAC in goals scored and ranks in a tie for ninth in assists. He’s also climbing up another key historical stat for the Men’s Soccer Huskies, ranking in a tie for second for goals in a single season. Saturday’s performance tied him with Pedro Bianchi’s 2015 campaign. That has placed the pair two behind Rodrigo Wogel Koebsch, who set the single-season record in 2015 with 12.
In his first year of eligibility, Bartha is studying Business Management.
The Huskies return to the road this coming weekend, challenging the Concordia Thunder and King’s University Eagles in Edmonton.
Saturday’s games against the Thunder are scheduled for 3:45 p.m. kick-off for the women and 5:45 p.m. for the men. On Sunday, the Huskies and Eagles are scheduled to kick-off at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
