Palavecino, Hronopoulos named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week

Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Soccer student athlete Blanca Palavecino (Edmonton, Alta.) and Men's Soccer student athlete Dino Hronopoulos (Edmonton, Alta.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 2, 2022.  
 
The Women's Soccer Huskies captured wins against the Concordia Thunder and King's Eagles while the Men's Soccer Huskies split their weekend results with a win over the Thunder and a loss to the Eagles.  
 
Palavecino stepped up as part of the Huskies' key defensive performances, shutting out their opponents in the 1-0 win over the Thunder and 2-0 win against the Eagles. They allowed just seven shots on goal throughout the two games.  
 
"She's always been an important part of our team, but our backline really stepped up specifically," Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. "Blanca led it, and then Madi [Tyson] and Isabela [Bustos-Chaba] were really good as well.  
 
"[Blanca] coming back in from an injury and putting that type of work in, not just on Saturday, but Sunday as well was good to see."  
 
Palavecino is in her fifth year of eligibility and is studying Elementary Education.  
 
Hronopoulos also took the lead defensively for his side, which conceded just two goals and five shots on goal throughout the entire weekend.  

"Dino has been very solid," Slotboom said. "He came in from being injured, we were hoping that we could not play him this weekend, but he didn't disappoint when we had to call on him towards the end of the game.  
 
"He defensively dominated on Sunday. He covered for everybody, made some great plays, some great reads so he held our team together. It wasn't a great performance overall by the group, but he definitely stepped up a few levels to make sure that we were still in the game."  

Hronopoulos is in his second year of eligibility and is studying Elementary Education. 
 
Up next for the Women's & Men's Soccer Huskies is a trip to Lloydminster, Alta. for a pair of matches against the Lakeland Rustlers on Saturday and Sunday. Kick-off for the games on both days are at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
